Must say that Mass Effect 2 was an awesome game, and after a two days of playing (25 hours of playing time :P) I finally beat the Collectors and can get back to my Fenris farm, about the same fun as scanning for minerals on planets ;). Dont know if anyone else beside me and Daeron have played it but I thought we could compare end results :P
To avoid spoilers alerts I will make this vague :P

So, you're 50 eh? No endgame to speak of? Nothing to do? No idea what that's all about, seem to have my work cut out for me a while yet. I'm working on getting the Fenrir Gloves at the moment, as well as collecting platinum coins for a shiny new weapon.

When those are obtained at least I'll have the basic things I feel I need to start spending my time in the Abyss generally murdering all I can find. To have a group there does help, but as more and more are hitting 50 the likelyhood ofgetting groups and getting things done improve greatly. Currently a cleric or two more at 50 would more or less have us set. Glad to have cooking which provides a reasonably steady and good income, maybe I'll be able to afford to for the enchants and such needed as well. Guess I'll move a long with Alchemy slowly later as well, but see no need to master it. 399 will do me fine there.

I don’t want to expand myself endlessly on such a complex and multi-faced theme, but I think we could find out a lot of useful tips on the best strategists in the history of the world. For this first part I am going to focus my attention in these ones:

Miyamoto Musashi

The basic idea I want to remark from this awesome sword master is the idea recorded on his “Book of Five Rings”

Everything in this book goes around the tactician, commander if you may. As the creator of the strategy, Musashi compares him to a carpenter. All crafter that wants to success on his profession, must know perfectly well his own tools. The more he knows the tools, the more valuable pieces will come out of his workhouse.

If you pretend to lead a team, or a full alliance, you have to know the roles of every single class present on the battlefield. The more you know them, the better you will be able to direct them. Even more, they are not only classes, but people. Each individual will act on his own personal experiences and knowledge on his class. Know them well, and you will have half of the battle won. This is why not everyone is cut to be a leader, knowledge of your class makes you a good warrior, knowledge of every single detail of every single class of every single person makes you a good leader.

Musashi applies 5 circles in the battlefield, but in our case 4 would be applicable. I guess you imagine which ones them would be. Healing, Tanking, Dps, and Leading. And yes, I apply leading as a class apart from the events on the battle itself. The director/s of the fight should be focusing on the whole battle, and not on the bloody ranger that is nuking them.

Vom Kriege

The most interesting idea coming from this Prussian general is the idea of “Fog of War”

I guess most of you are familiar with this term, but we tend to forget that in MMOs we do have a fog of war too. The idea is pretty simple, you don’t see them, they don’t see you. We lived that situation today in the inner abyss. Our enemies stayed at a certain distance from us, letting us relax before gathering together and attacking us. Many times they succeeded just because we didn’t spot them on time, killing one or two people in the back. We have to understand this fog. As I see it, there are 4 levels of fog in the game.

1. Visual distance. Basically visual contact, and remember we think on 3D now.

2. Map distance. Hard to organise anything based on the minimap or the general map, due to the lack of altitude. If you are going to base a tactical decision on a minimap warning, be sure to check the altitude 2 or 3 times before. Would not be the first time that you find yourself alone when you are supposed to be surrounded by allies, that are actually 300 meters bellow you. Every position reference should be accompanied by at least an altitude message.

3. Radar distance. The ones of you familiar with enemy radar, know that this is a very useful warning. But the only problem is that you don’t have a clear direction of where the enemy is coming from. But it’s a good heads-up. Some of you know as well that each time that the game engine loads an attackable pc, it lags for a fraction of a second, this occurs even before the radar ping.

4. Awareness distance. This is the tricky one. The one which gives you the advantage in combat. There are blind spots in your awareness in-game. The most clear of them is behind you. You don’t see, don’t detect enemies behind you till they are backstabbing you. But the most efficient one, is actually up. You cannot see enemies just on top of you, you cannot direct the camera to see them, you cannot target them without struggling with the camera. An attack from the top of a group can give the automatic advantage to a smaller group. And this is the place you want to be if you are a ranged DPS.

Sun Tzu

The idea of Adaptation is the one I want to mark on this Chinese general. Every single combat you will face will be different. If you root yourself on the patterns of the fights you will lose eventually. No one has a definite battle plan to win all the skirmishes. That’s why there is a whole sea of strategy books. The more you try to find patterns for all the possibilities that you will find, the more you will be close to the failure. Is just a matter of time that someone, somewhere will think a way of breaking that patterns. If you are the one to break it, you will win.

The ones that played Warhammer will remember this situations. Endless warbands roaming a map conquering all, objectives, forts, then fortresses, then cities. It was that way till someone found out how to conquer forts in small groups. Breaking the pattern and making the warbands turn around, re-conquer everything and look desperately for the small sneaky group that was pissing them off.

Patterns are boring, monotone. If you let the groups rot in stabilised patterns they will turn lazy. Everybody remembers the follow/afk issue on destruction during our days on WAR. Keep a fluid strategy, be imaginative, try new ways of surprising the enemy, of making yourself strong in other situations, and the battle will be a challenge everyday. And the people will love every single day in the battlefield. Sun Tzu used the water as an example of this. Water is the most powerful element in the world, yet is fluid, it changes, it adapts to a bottle and runs free in the oceans, it transforms the mountains and turns the fire in mud. Be like the water, and you will succeed.

Andrew Wiggins (Ender)

I know this one is a science fiction character, but his creator (Orson Scott Card) made a great work on making him one of the most brilliant strategists in space 3D battles.

The idea is very simple. The 3D space is a complex concept for us humans. We are not used to think in 3 dimensions, because we live trapped by the gravity of a planet. For us up and down are secondary troubles. Fighting on a real 3D scenario makes your basic knowledge of strategy useless for a start. You can keep thinking like you normally do and fail or you can adapt the properties of this scenario on your advantage.

We are starting to see what kind of situations you can find. The first and most important is the confusion. When a large group of members start flying around, there is a sense of chaos, like something is not where it should be. This leads to panic. The floor is a good position for defence and a good point of start, but staying on ground will turn you into a prey, like a pack of rabbits for a falcon. In order to avoid the confusion of the group flight, train is necessary.

The division of the group in smaller squads makes the strategy more 3D appropriate, and helps to avoid the flight confusion. A hand with 5 claws hurts more than a single knife, plus can react faster to changes in the tide of battle. Flying seems easy but its not. Flying formations may look stupid, but they help to make the flying easier and avoid confusion during combat. But it takes time and effort to learn to fly comfortably with others in a battle formation. Training exercises mark the better or worse develop of a battle formation, and it helps to adapt the scenario.

Machiavelli’s book, “The Art of War” it’s a long extend and boring compendium of dialogs about the management of an army, but we can take a small part of it to point out an important concept in battle. The division of large groups of combatants in smaller, more useful phalanxes.

Large groups moving are devastating in combat, but difficult to command. Splitting the action between smaller self-sufficient groups, makes it easier to react and adapt to the battle. In our case it would be necessary that the groups inside an alliance had a certain degree of self control and management. This implies too a new concept inside the warband, there wouldn’t be only 1 leader commanding, but a group of them under the lead of the main director. If you are going to lead an attack, its comfortable to know that each decision you take is going to be filtered by at least 4 thinking minds. Let’s make an example of this. If you want to direct a rear attack on a pack of enemies, you can order one of your squads to flank them, if that squad is directed by someone you trust, you’ll just need one order and the squad will act independently. You would loose a precious time explaining the whole movement to the 6 warriors.

For this end, you need people that are used to play together on each squad. So placing them together during all the battle and adjusting properly the groups before starting is crucial. This squads need to act as one, and control their positions in battle. Is useless to be in a great group, if the members are splitted all over the map.

..........

Well, hope you found this view of tactics not so boring. Hope we can open a healthy discusion about tactics and general in-game strategies that we can use. I will continue to analice the future encounters, and ill try to take out all the juice of the situations we will encounter. But please, try share your view of it too, many eyes see better than two.

Brusthoin have been my home more or less since I reached 44, I guess I'll see even more of it later, all depending on my sanity I suppose. Still have some group quests in the Bakarma area to complete, else the area is more or less questless for my part.

Really should get into the Bakarma area soon, while they give a good amount of xp as well as the quests being current. Guess that's a project for the nearest days.

The King and I

So, on a whim we made a small force (11 people) to give King Consierd a go. After having tried the fight a few times we figured we'd have another go at him to see if we can't best him this time. We gathered up and after some quick discussion on who does what and some giggles on randoms running too close to him getting nuked, we enganged him ourselves.

Two rangers and a sorc in reserve should it be needed was set to deal with adds at 50%, else people was to make Fried chicken of the feathered pest. With everyone now taking out their long time pent up frustrations of grinding and dying on the flying featherball it dropped fast. The first 25% is basic tank and spank, the next is a little different. Every 20 or so seconds he'll stun all in melee and target a random member charging that person. If that person has the "Tear Flesh" debuff and takes damage or dies it will heal the Birdie about 1-2% After a few seconds Another AoE will follow, but it's of little danger unless you're very low level. To help the healers pot'ing up helps should you be caught in the AoE, he'll then return to the highest aggro target, the tank hopefully.

50% comes and the small vultures begin to spawn, this is of course the time when one of the rangers decide to disconnect and make a right mess of all our preperations, but the sorc takes up the slack and takes his place for the time he takes to reconnect, the small mess lets the boss regen a few % as the small elites have the same regen ability as the boss does. Just that it heals the main boss, not the adds. Nuke them down as they spawn and keep the dps up on the boss whenever possible.

At 25% it becomes simple again, the adds does not spawn anymore and the AoE stun (Crippling Wave) stops. He'll do an ability called "Rotate" which stuns the tanks and spins him, then a followup "Blindside Attack", it does do a fair bit of damage, but it's no problem to survive if the tank it pretty much topped off. Steel Wall also provide some protection, but don't worry if you don't have it up. Just cruise in the last % and enjoy your spoils.

For us the loot was:

Kings Staff

Not much lootwise, but was a quite decent fight :) Quite enjoyable actually.

And on a side note I hit 40 at stupid o'clock this morning.

A month passed

Been some very heartwarming days, it's pretty much a month after release now, the queue's have subsided and the inital rush is stabilzing into communities. Ours seem much stronger then expected which as initally mentioned warms a GM's heart. The next month will mold the first experiences, how the legions are looked upon, some individuals will soon emerge and start making a mark on the server for better of worse. The first people to reach 50 is very seldom anyone actually remembers more then perhaps a week after it happened. In a month or three it would be "was some sorc that was 50 first, doesn't matter".

The first larger changes will normally also be happening around now, which they have. Sol Invictus lost a lot of members to Eva Vix and to people leaving the game so in the end most chose to join Eva Vix. Guess we'll see which other changes that will come and come they will. We'll do what we do best, play together and carry ourselves proudly. I'd rather be the respected legion then the legion everyone hates just with a little better gear. We'll be a force to fear in battle, not hate.

Always remember that you carry our name, don't disrespect me, the legion or your fellow brothers with acts of vengance and petty selfishness. You reap as you sow it's said, be respectful even in the face of stupidity. You can't reason with stupidity, just be dragged to their level and be beaten with experience. Don't put yourself in that position. If you find yourself in it regardless, trust yourself and your jugdement. I am certain that you'll do the right thing and myself and the officers will support you whatever your decision.

Inactivity and some gaming thoughts...

Hey fellas.

Haven't been online in a while, have a lot of things on my mind atm. Some of them game-related, since (I think I've mentioned) I work as a game/movie/music reviewer for a local game-portal, and the last 2 months of every year come with a great bunch of AAA titles, that need my attention both professionaly and for fun. Because of that Aion comes second...

Since most of your gaming time might be taken by Aion, there sure are a lot of great titles you might be missing. So here I am to fill you out with what's happening.

- Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3). F*cking game of the year! I don't own a PS3, got one from the local distributers for the review. Its an overwhelming game and perhaps one of my top 10 titles of all time. Stunning visuals, incredible characters, action and cinematography. If Lara Croft is the Queen of the action-adventure games, than Nathaniel Drake is the King. Kick-ass game, total 10/10 and GOTY, be sure to check it out if you own a PS3 or have a friend with one. Its roughly 10 hours but hase increadible multiplayer as well.

- Brutal Legend (PS3, Xbox360). Tim Schaffer is back! Jack Black rocks, the soundtrack rocks. Its a fun, witty and diverse game, mixing action, racing and RTS. If you are a rock/metal fan you'll love the story and characters. Really recomend it.

- Borderlands (PC, PS3, Xbox 360). Do you remember Hellgate London? The RPG/FPS mix from some of the Diablo guys? Well it sucked in many ways, so another attempt in this (not counting Fallout 3, it was hardly a FPS game) is Borderlands by Gearbox. Verry good game, nice cell-shading visuals, lots of weapons, 4 classes, driving and so on. I'm currently playing it, a lvl 21 hunter with Sniper/Bloodwing spec. The game has some flaws but if you are hungry for a hack and slash rpg with first-person perspective - thats the one! It also has 4 man co-op!

- Dead Space: Extraction (Wii) . I loved the first Dead Space, that came out last year. I love sci-fi horrors. The Nintendo game is a prequel to Dead Space, and offers a "rail-shooter" gameplay, mostly known from games like House of the Dead and Resident Evil - Umbrella Chronicles. Its a really great game, very atmospheric and the 2 man co-op is da shit!

So thats from me, just givin you the head-ups on what you might be missing outside the MMO genre :) I regret I can't play with you very actively, will focus on casualy leveling my char and we'll see where we can get from there. I love the game, its just that after WAR maybe I need some time off playing a lot and dedicating myself to a single title. And there are more great games to come till February - Assassin's Creed 2, Modern Warfare 2, Army of Two:40th day, Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta and many more. Will play Aion from time to time, I still enjoy the game quite much, just gona be slooooooow.

Anyways, just wanted to give you some imput on that. Hope you enjoy the game and see you online :)

37 and counting

I have found myself a nice and calm place with little disturbance from outsides sources so I'm killing away in a nice and zen-like manner these days. Of course the likelyhood of getting a whisper for doing this and that is quite high. Fire Temple I can tank in my sleep, we actually had an assassin fall asleep on us half way through the instance the other day, hope he had a nice nap.

It's strange how the hours pass as you play, even if you don't play much, just chat or handle "stupid and qupid" situations. Last days have also been largely spent in Morheim helping people with the Mistmane quests. Ranged classes have the option to just kill them solo, which makes the enterance a fairly popular place for many to grind some levels.

You'll see a fair few groups in the area as well, with several quite important as well as campaign quests it's a very crowded area most of the day. From all the quests a few stand out which is almost a must for all classes and that's the Group: Never to Rise again quest. That awards the level 40, 4000DP power. An ability which in most cases are very kickass. The Templar one would be Divine Grasp, which is a real fun one you just can't live without.

Almar's guides has a run down of the quests you can do in the Mist Mau area, though not all are worth doing, but if you're a real quest monger you'll more then likely be drooling at the amount of them. Mostly think this guy has some good guides, but generally too short and often does not quite provide the information you'd like to have. You'll also notice that in regards to the shoe quest the information provided is actually dead wrong. Enough guild bashing though, it's a decent enough site which gives some useful information.

We'll be continuing our adventures later tonight I would imagine, to finish off the campaign tonight i doubt will happen, but at least we'll be striding towards it.

So there we were last night, grinding at the northern part of the upper abyss, and all of a sudden a load of Elyos came and ganked us!!! Me and Engarde called upon our fellow Fenririans Sirius and Ekke for a PvP Mash up!

So later today we decided to grind again, but this time in the south. Me and Engarde were happily playing when a Templar and Cleric Jumped us! Shame on him to try and get some abyss points on us poor lowbie Asmodians =(
But we pwned the Cleric and he ran off, only to find that there was a kisk hidden in the midst =P see if you can work out whose!

Putting down the pain!

The evening started with some tries on the World boss in Morheim King Consierd we learnt a fair few things in the encounter. The first phase from 100% to 75% is a straight tank and spank. At 75% he starts to use the Ability "Stun Wave" which stuns all targets within 20m. At this point you should be watching your debuffs as he's start to throw around a debuff called "Tear Flesh". During the Stun period and a few seconds following it will randomly charge players that are not stunned (Aka not the maintank) before returning to his orginal aggrolist. If he damages a player with the debuff he'll heal for a large amount each time, so anyone with the debuff should be well away from the bloody bird. Melee can be pounding it, but if they get the debuff they should be legging it for the duration. Ranged can still be at max range doing damage, but as "Stun Wave" is casting running like a loon is recomended. The tank will feel like a Marathon runner in this fight, it will usually move over a fairly large area and you'll more then likely pick up the occasional low level add, if you try to stay in the general area where he is pecking at the guards you'll be reasonably safe for that problem as there are few mobs there and those that are is almost always neutral. At 50% another phase begins, in addition to the Stun Waves and Tear Flesh he now Spawn two elite birds which also have the "Tear Flesh" ability on a smaller scale though these affect the boss, not the small elites themselves. In short you need to be picking them off asap. A decicated group for this is recomended. A suggestion would be a gladiator/Templar with a healer, either cleric or chanter will do. Pick them up and pull them away from "the masses" and and remove them from existence. Each "stun wave" will spawn two more from this point on so you'll have your work cut our for you. As a note the debuff can not be dispelled by any means short of dying, which is highly unrecomended.

Didn't kill him, but learnt more about the fight, we'll see a dead vulture soon enough.

After our first little venture of the evening people wanted to have some PvP, which we most certainly should be doing. We did loose a few to random things, but was 10 man strong and ventured on making the Elyos pay for the ganking they did against defenceless poor Asmodians only wishing to help the cause by ridding the Abyss of the current Balaur presence. We repayed the favor in kind and also protected our own from both single and groups of stupid Elyos not realising the Balaur is the enemy, not eachother. As last time we went up against both even, lower and much larger numbers, each time never retreating and even getting people following our lead. We live or die with the pack.

It's been in the making a long time, but it finally happened. Today the wolves went hunting and the pack made an impact. The importance of flight gates, the use of artifacts to their greatest effects.

Fire Temple Attunement

Attunement:

Well, first you get to work to get in there. The quest is called Three Keys first you do is go to Morheim and find Anud which sends you south to a mighty cool looking fire spirit. I'm sure I'll be more then fed up with fire spirits soon enough, but at least I'll enjoy them while I can. To get there a flight down south To Alsig Village and a small trek northwards is receomended, else if you're a skint/poor bastard just go southwards and home in on the questmark. You might also go south through the desert from the Observation Post, but the difference isn't much.

As you arrive to the crater, ye it' a bloody vulcano. Bring a fan, or perhaps some servants, whichever suits you. This is a flying zone, so just life off and head straight west, you should be able to see the direction from the map as well, just aim at the large floating tower and you'll see the questgiver soon enough.

He shows you a cinematic of things to come, the first steps are easy enough. Fly fully around the tower next to the questgiver and find the first room. (As a note if you have a Spiritmaster with you any room counts as "the same zone" so you can enter the first room should you have lost some members due to unforunate circumstances at any point during the instance.) The first room is non-elites only, it's just to aim towards the other end of the room and the "key guardian". Nothing spesific needs to be said really, just aim for the guardian, kill it, pick up the quest item and click the huge door behind him. Might be possible solo, at least duoable, though you might as well bring a group and get the remaining ones done as well.

From here you'll need a a group, the remaining two rooms are elites, most double pulls a few tripple depending on how much you'd like to clear. For the Wind room, just clear the center and try to find the "Key guardian" on your minimap and aim for him. There are several roaming patrols, but you should be able to avoid/kill them with a little sense and patience.

Next room is the Fire plattforms. Where is it possible to glid and avoid some mobs towards the end, the time saved isn't really that much. The top plattform you clear the mobs a long the side, mostly double pulls, just keep an eye on the Obscura's and it's a breeze. Drop down as you reach the next plattform, you'll need to engage the protector, but it's an easy kill. Next you'll clear across the room of the circlingpatrols only the outermost circle patrol is needed. Just cut across the plattform, the tripple pull you can just pass, just go straight into the middle most single most mobs and either tank/CC the patrol. Kill the next few next to you and you can drop down easily, of course you can glide off the plattform before if you feel comfortable gliding, but as one commented "I like safe, it's much cheaper".

In the final room you have a patrol close to where you drop down, take it out and take in the room. As long as you make a little safe heaven you'll be fine in this room. Careful on the pulls and you'll never get more then a double mob pull. I won't go into details on the pulls, they're simple and should not make any problems for pretty much any PuG, let alone a guild group.

After the guardian is dead, just click the door, go to Bulgan and hand it in and he sends you south to Alsig and in the best spirits you'll be sent back up to Bulgan again, congratulations, you're attuned to Fire Temple.

New servers and reroll incentives

Today we will be adding two additional servers. We will be adding a new French server named Arbolu and a new English server named Kalil. As we continue to grow and add more servers we realize that switching from a queued server isn’t an easy decision. In order to incentivize play on these 2 servers, as well as the recently opened German server Lephar, we will be offering 10 consumable experience potions that boost your experience by 20% for one hour. These will be available through the survey system to one character per account on these servers and only for this weekend!

And now for a bit of the history of the names…

Arbolu is keeper of the Genesis Spring in Heiron, and a divine tree who leads a village where humans and Elim live in harmony.

Kalil was a great Prophet said to have written a book detailing the futures of both the Asmodian and Elyos peoples, followers of this book have become known as Disciples of Kalil.

Thanks!

As you see there are things happening, new servers and 10 hours of grindpots, not a shabby thing at all, I think as a Legion we'll stay put nicely. It's shaping up to be a pretty solid server this, might as well suffer a little queue to get the good stuff in the end. They are shrinking slowly, from people rerolling to people playing a little less, it's going the right way in short.

The PuG of dreams

A week or so since last I wrote, been a busy one. At the moment I am loosing gaming time due to the wonderful world of having a job. It is a horrible thing I know, but alas it is so. At 28, actually very close to 29, but want another go in Nouhonen traing Camp before I outlevel it. Migth see if I don't fraps a little there as well, just for the fun of it :)

It's a good instance, but as any instance it can be a nightmare with a PUG which I got to experience yesterday. It did cost me a few K kinah and a litle exp, but it happens. Nothing more I'll worry about now. I took the lead and lead well I would say. Only took a few pulls before things started happening however, our best friend the pug Assassin strikes out with an awesome pull of a mob with the miniboss right by, the result being all the elites was called and we was wiped except the cleric which ran like mad, and rightly so.

We res up and rest up our health while waiting for Soul Sickness to wear off. we get buffs up and I mark the next pull and implore people to wait until they've moved from the platt form before attacking. This is the moment the Gladiator choses to find out what that clickable thing on the artifact is and runs up to click it... You guessed it, the boss aggro's of course and with him all the remaining elites. Another heroic death in a blaze of gory stupidity later the group blames the Assassin and the Gladiator Ragequits due to the incompents idiots in the group and leaves.

Some 20 minutes later what I claimed about 29's not being able to run the instance is proven true and we continue.

The artifact is taken down after people started to finally listen to instructions and one dead Assassin later we move to the gates. We enter the first gates and wait a few seconds for the roaming patrol to come which it promptly does. A little messy, but it's taken down reasonably easy.

Next the miniboss drake is targeted and I say how I'll tank it. I wait until I see all is in place and pull it, position it and my god if the ranger haven't pulled the elite Recondo above the main gates.... However the flying fuck that was accomplished I don't want to know, but a nicely cooked Ranger later I pickup the Recondo and hold it while the drakes bites the dust. The assassin of course manages to die somehow, so I get to dps the last % on the drake and the Recondo on my own pretty much.

The door is next, which we in our awsomeness pwn with ease. The elites that charge out is picked up by the awesome Templar in the group and it's all good from there. The rest goes pretty much flawless from there on in. Of course the stupid ass of a general (understanably so) think we're too patethic to drop any loot and we leave his rotting corpse for the carrion worms to feed on.

After that the group want to kill some more elites for the exp, but either in pure irony or frustration I make a mother of stupidity pull and wipe us nice and proper. At least we end as we start I suppose.

/facepalm

AFK shops, the trend just keeps on going. A picture says more a thousand words it's said, scenes like these are quite commonplace now, people setting up shops then leaving for the night to avoid the queues of logging on. This is from the starting area, the city is packed with people doing the same thing.

A little wait and a little queue isn't really a bad thing, but 4000+ and an average of 4 hours in the evening is really on the amazingly stupid side. I would say that the private stores are a decent enough feature, but some limits on how they are set up might be a good idea to implement. Limit shops to 4 hours for an example, have some random checks by GM's with the really blantant afk'ers at least.
God knows if anything will be done about this little scourge that is afk shops, it's quite understandable with the insane queues that you see every day, but these shops really do no help in any way.
Of course your level isn't all you need to level, it's your crafting and gathering as well, which does take a lot of work, but then again it is very, very awesomecakes to see it coming together like your very own little masterplan!
Besides sirens blazing and radios scratching, I was severely thinking about not returning to the guild after a long and requieted break that unfortunately occured due to the incoming death of Warhammer. But some filth swede (haiNergal) renewed my faith in the members of our current guild community through us playing on a private level 60 WoW Server, ripping some noobs and getting run down by the loltrain we made our way into disputing my return to the guild through Aion. But anyway let's Roleplay away and see where that gets us!

Templars - Saviours

Why a Templar?

When it comes to protecting your fellow brothers in arms and doing the hard and dirty jobs there isn't anyone better suited for it then the Templar. Armored like a tank created and driven by Chuck Norris himself they are as subtle as an Elephant in a fine china shop. As the saying goes in Asmodian military: "When all else fails, send a Templar".

Templar Unique and Signature skills

Level 22 - Inescapable Jugement
One of the two "pull" skills in the game, the other also belong to the Templar which I'll detail later.

Level 22 - Steel Wall Defence
The upgraded shield block which you get as a warrior, makes the Templar a right bastard to take down. You can hold this skill as long as you wish, each time it is ended by using another skill, jumping to ending it the 12 second CD comes into effect.

Level 16 - 28 - 40 Shining Slash
Thought you was safe against the Templar? This skills reminds me of Seal of "Casino" from WoW, it can hit weak and hardly be worth mentioning, then it'll get a jackpot and hit like a freight train. Makes for a real bastard to heal against.

Level 37 - Bodyguard
This does really redefine "over my dead body"... The person under the effect will have all his damage taken by the Templar, that person will per all definition be not taking any damage so they'll not be interrupted by damage. It's often a death sentence for the Templar, but it might save the day.

Level 40 - Divine Grasp
I'm sure most have heard of it, the 4k Templar pull skill. Divine grasp has an hour cool down and you won't see it often, but bloody hell you'll make chaos when it's used. The video below shows it in use in a fortress, though for reference, bring a healer when you use it...

Of course the templar has a quite good intro, you also see the pull skill in use at 0:35, enjoy!

The Templar does have several chains just made for make enimity and keep tanking nice and easy. Single target is close to stupidly easy, up to three targets quite doable as well, above that it often requires long CD's to get inital aggo or CC to assist in mob control. Of course an offtank is also an option on some pulls.

I'll keep writing about the Templar when time allows, have fun people!

Final day

So here we are, Sunday 20/09-09 head start for Aion Online! Months of waiting are coming to an end, the wait however shorter has been just as intense as the time we all waited for Warhammer.

Most have chosen what to play now, personally I've chosen a Templar, a tank type. It's been quite a while since I tanked or played a heavy armor class, so it'll be a change. Looking forward to the challenge!

The supplies for the coming days are ready, in after thought I should have purchased more drinks I think, but I guess I'll have to sneak off for an hour in a few days and get some. Don't think I'll have enough for a week. I'm glad to have a little group to level with, as solo leveling a Templar is quite doable, but somewhat slow. Looks to have a quite decent group however so it should be quite good. I did actually not play a Templar in the recent Open Beta, but I had already decided to play one at that point. I played through those days as a Gladiator and a Sorcerer to get those out of my system so to speak. The Sorcerer was as expected a glasscannon, as long as Ironskin was up it worked well, but any physical damage that broke it would take one down extremely quickly. One chain would pretty much do it, played a cloth class for too long I think, not doing another. Gladiator was quite decent, it could also tank fairly well by stacking up on parry, putting on a sword and shield is also an option, but I'm not so sure it'll become a better tank however much of a shield it puts on.

so i went to work as i do every freaking day, wasent in the best mood caus hey i was going to fucking work and thats not ecakly an exciting thing now is it? k so the day started out pretty decently, not really any bullshit of any kind but then i went to a place where we kick junkies out of a baisment becaus the owners and renters get scared shitless of them., so i walk down there and ofcaurs i dident bring my maclight caus ther hasent ben any junkies for a month and today they decided to have a fucking junkiesRus reunion down there... 2 women and 4 guys wooptifuckingdo
i decided that MAYBY diplomacy would be the best way to handel it. so i ask them politly to leave and at first they start to pack up but the one of those junkie bitches start giving me shit about her not beeing a junkie and that she only does it once or twice a month... i told her that she dident have to explain herself to me, that what she did was her buisness and not mine but that she had to respect that pivate property wasent somthing they could just destroy like they had been doing and that they should respect the owners wishes... and that when shit got messed up... she said fuck you faggot and ofc i respended a millisecond later no fuck you , you toothless junkiewhore.. and ofc her junkie bf was there... so he gets worked up... and needless to say the others backed him up.. the bf fucking pushed me so i punched him and grabed him by the troat... aparently i was my lucky day caus somone had heard it and aparently they used ther head and instead of calling the cops they ran and got the doormen from the stripjoint 30 meters down the street so they came 2 guys and helped me calm them down and get them out....... so to summerice i fucking hate my job at times... alltho might make me sound a tad insane... but i felt damn good hitting that fucker!

Exploration and love

It seems you can go exploring in this game, at the risk of your sanity and life of course, but that's no price to pay when it comes to the wonders of exploration. I'll try to make some movies later during PvP, but I think my rig is slightly too weak to handle it. Just under the exploration I did I lost a lot of fps and had some stuttering.

If you want to make more movies you should, it isn't very hard when you start, window movie maker does actually do the job fine. If you want to go more advanced you have Adobe Premier or Sony Vegas as much more pro. versions.

Soon Done

Only just over a day until the open beta is over, it's been quite an interesting time. Have my to make dinner and generally be social today so I guess I have to do a little crafting and such the next hours. After that we'll see how the grinding will go. Looking forward to the first week, after that I'll more then likely lag a little on the leveling, but I'll try to keep up. Templars aren't really grind machines until late levels, but I guess I'll have to see what one might be able to do.

Did get to complete the level 21 plate armor yesterday which made me look awesome.

Old Lady in Abyss

Let me say somthing in general about Aion. I have to admit that in last cupple of days I have had my doubts about Aion. There is few quests (aka rank 20-25) and when you do find quests, half of them are gathering and the other half is Coin quest (another type of Grind). There is little PvP to find, as if there is a rift it will most likely go down in 2 min, and if there is a Elyos, he will probebly get zerged... Now at this point I was thinking, what the hell am I doing waisting my time here. But I was wrong...

Once I ding 25 I got this little kick in me (with a little doubth) that I could finely get to abyss and finely get to PVP. But before I could do that I needed to prove myself worthy by runing 100miles (Aion Style) from one NPC to another and listening to a dull (but rather interesting) story about Abyss...
After all the talk and a Marathon behind my feet, I entered Abyss...

I dont know how I can describe the feeling I had, but I saw the light of Aion at that point. It was so big, so well made and just amazing! The scale of the Abyss is just insane, Just to look on the Core level of Abyss made me feel so small... But basicle what I am trying to say, the 1st impresion was just "forfeeled" to the max...

So there I was stending, little Old lady in the middle of no where trying to figure out what to do and how to act in the big mans world. It dident take long time before I found myself a sourc friend, who has been flying around in Abyss for a while and had more exp then me.
The Soc named "Ellene" told me that we should go to the Elyos side and find some fights. That sounded not hard, since Abyss cant be That big (still having doubte about the scaling at this point).
So we took of, me following "Ellene" in a hope of geting my PvP virginiti "forfeeled". After "10-15" min flying we finely reached our destination, outside Elyos Fortress we started fighting Elyos who were grinding mobs for EXP and Abyss points. We killed a cupple before we vanished into the sky, a basic guerrilla tactic. But then Old Lady got to excitet. I saw a fleeing Elyos and thought that would be nice kill to add to my killing spree. It dident take me long time before I found out that flying is not unlimited and fell to my doom. ( I should have realy read what those NPC's said on the quest to Abyss).

After I resurected "Ellene" went offline and I joined a group of "Leet" rangers from guild "TEAR". Who had full abyss gear, and were already 30. It dident take long time before us 3 rangers started to dominate no mater what we came across of (Both mobs and Elyos).

The time was closing 5 am, most Elyose went to but our groupd of 3 rangers + 1 new Healer was roming Abyss like Kings, killing 1 and 1 Elyose who where desperetly trying to gather Abyss points for there Gear. (Not proud of 4v1, but good way to explore). When time reached 6am I found out that I should join Ogly and go to bed, witht the thought of what a fantastic day this was :)

Some pictures coming up in Gallery, so check out :)

Sorcerer vs Warrior

I started open beta with a mage --> Sorcerer, I have no intentions of rolling one in live, but I thought I'd try it more to make sure I have gotten it out of my system and don't reroll in live or something like that. Does not seem that's going to be a problem, I can see it would become a fairly cool class, but it's so dependant on it's CC and can't take a hit in any way. I get bad memories from the Archmage in Warhammer when I think of it. I don't think I was an awesome Archmage, nor do I think Sorcerer is a bad class, it's however bloody not my sort of class. I need my plate damn it!

My OB Experience so far..

Second evening of open beta and i still haven't figured out a way to participate in it.
Kinda bums me out, i was really looking forward to testing out the v1.5 changes.

I've been experiencing a not that unusual error saying that either GameGuard or Aion has been modified and therefor GameGuard decides to terminate the application. Disabled Firewall, Antivirus and other security software. Reinstalled GameGuard itself and opening ports left and right without any success so far.

Im dry on ideas, looking around at several different forums and communities but the only a foolproof solution to it seems to disabling / removing / somehow running the game without GameGuard, wich in itself is a bannable offence and i can't be arsed having my master account at NC banned since i have other games regged to it aswell.

Bleh, i hope someone comes up with a viable solution or that NC decides to drop the awful rootkit that is GameGuard. The sooner the better.

Oh well, i'll try and pass the time PvPing some on a private classic WoW Server some and ofcourse to finalize the webpage aswell.

Localization of Aion

Warcry.com recently featured a quite good article on the localization work being done on Aion.

The classic example of the difference is "All your base are belong to us." was translated. Whereas the localized/westernized version might end up, "I'm in your base killin' your dudes!" When people can't tell it was translated through the experience, then it was localized.

There is an impressive line of writers writing their keyboards to a shamble, let's hope these guys do it better then Age of Conan. Where as I'd expect some grinding to be done, I do hope there is some story to be told as well, I'm a sucker for a good story!

Well where do we start? Perhaps with the name so you know who we are; we're Fangs of Fenrir, a bloodthirsty group of asmodian rampage artists culling the likes of the poor Elyos who have neglected us for so long, that being said - we take no prisoners so be warned!

Fangs of Fenrir thirsts for blood in all aspects of slaying, that includes PvE and PvP, we are a hardcore but mature guild that wish to be the "leader of the pack" so for those of you who haven't got the effort to put in, the SlackPack is that way --->!

Our legion emblem is as follows:

We represent the fierce and godslaying wolf, Fenrir and as a symbol of our worship, we have dedicated our soul to him, thus the orders we carry out are the plans of the great Fenrisúlfr himself!
Fear not; if you decide to join us, it will be determined by the thoughts of the great wolf, think of it as destiny or fate rather than a decision made within the legion! Because if you are chosen, you will be greatly rewarded...
With this site I have tried to learn a lot from your old site and with that making your new site so much better. The frontpage is a good example of that, where the old frontpage was very good at displaying all the resent stuff happening on the forum all the other parts of the site suffered. For example you had no way of telling wether someone had posted a comment on one of the images you uploaded. But now every time something gets updated on the site it will reflect that on the frontpage in the updates box. Another thing I added to the frontpage is the feature box, from here the Administrators of the site will be abel to post very interesting stuff that have happened, wether that be their grandmothers birthday or that you just owned everybody in Aion or whatever :).
